Joe is an exceptionably relatable psychologist, with a unique ability to guide audiences through tough topics with knowledge, humour and humanity. Originally from Ireland, he now considers himself almost Australian.
An expert in suicide prevention, Joe’s early experiences in Australia included working in the Kimberley, Western Australia. There he co-founded the award-winning Alive & Kicking Goals! Suicide prevention project in 2008. Joe went on to complete his PhD at UNSW/Black Dog Institute based on the trial of the world’s first app for suicide prevention (ibobbly). Joe is a member of the Reachout.com Clinical Advisory Group and had also served within the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Joe has helped many organisations to build vital skills among their workforces in his role as a suicide prevention trainer (ASIST). He also works in private practise, supporting clients through life’s challenges with an approach that is practical, solutions-focused and trauma informed.
